The VD8 is a Simcenter SCADAS module with differential and single-ended inputs that supports complete voltage and ICP signal conditioning as well as signal processing for eight channels.

The VD8 offers a unique combination of extremely low power consumption, high-performance 204.8 kHz 24-bit analog-to-digital conversion, and a noise-free dynamic range of 150 dB.

Signal conditioning
Each input channel features a voltage amplifier with an input range of ±100 mV to ±10 V. It includes a floating ICP with a differential input to prevent ground loops, as well as a power supply for ICP sensors.

The VD8 features an ICP cable test circuit to detect an open loop in the sensor cable. Errors are indicated by an LED on the front panel and simultaneously transmitted to the host to provide the user with optimal feedback.

The selectable AC coupling from 0.05 Hz to 7 Hz with a boost function for fast setup times reduces low-frequency signals that could otherwise overload the input amplifier.

The overload LED indicates both analog overloads detected at the input amplifier and digital overloads detected by the digital signal processor.

The VD8 supports smart sensors in accordance with IEEE 1451.4.

Without changing cables, Simcenter SCADAS Mobile can read the Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) containing important information such as sensor type, sensitivity, calibration date, coordinates, etc.
Analog-to-digital conversion
The VD8 uses power-efficient, high-performance 24-bit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters. Each ADC is preceded by a 4-pole analog anti-aliasing filter. With a maximum sampling rate of 204.8 kHz, the VD8 supports both vibration and acoustic applications. A wide selection of digital decimation filters reduces the bandwidth in steps of 2 and 2.5.
Monitoring output (VD8MO only)
Each input channel has a monitoring output via a grounded CAMAC connector. The full-range output signal is ±10 V at 0 dB gain and is AC-coupled via a first-order high-pass filter (0.5 Hz).

All output channels are protected against short circuits and electrostatic discharge.
